Casper Mehlos Law Group, LLC is pleased to announce that Attorney Corey G. Mehlos has been elected as the President of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (WACDL). As President of WACDL, Attorney Mehlos is focused on advancing the organization’s impact throughout the state of Wisconsin on behalf of over 400 criminal defense lawyers through delivering high-impact professional development programming, spurring criminal justice reform, and zealously protecting the constitutional rights of people accused of crimes. WACDL delivers a series of high-impact professional development programs and collaborative strategic resources for its members that elevate the skills of its criminal defense attorney members so that they can champion the constitutional rights of their clients throughout the state of Wisconsin.

Attorney Mehlos has served on WACDL’s Executive Board for the past seven years. As a criminal defense lawyer, he has been recognized by Super Lawyers for the last eight years, a peer-nominated designation reserved for approximately 2.5 percent of lawyers in the state of Wisconsin. In the courtroom, Attorney Mehlos has consistently achieved successful outcomes for his clients, particularly in complex criminal defense litigation.

Attorney Mehlos has consistently won not guilty verdicts at trial and secured full dismissal of all criminal charges prior to trial in the most serious felony cases ranging from First Degree Intentional Homicide, Second Degree Intentional Homicide, First Degree Reckless Homicide, First Degree Sexual Assault, and Second Degree Sexual Assault among other serious cases. In 2023, The National Registry of Exonerations recognized Attorney Mehlos for his work exonerating an innocent man at trial following his conviction in a serious felony case that was originally charged as Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide amongst other serious felony charges.

At the first trial with his prior lawyer, Attorney Mehlos’ client was convicted of four criminal counts after four of the State’s witnesses testified that he confessed to the crimes. Attorney Mehlos prevailed at the second trial, demonstrating that the purported confession was not actually a confession and delivered overwhelming evidence in support of his client’s innocence, resulting in his full acquittal of all criminal charges.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Attorney Mehlos graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame, earning his undergraduate degree, and graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

At the University of Wisconsin Law School, Attorney Mehlos worked in The Wisconsin Innocence Project on complex cases alleging homicide and sexual assault. He developed advanced investigation and DNA analysis defense strategies that resulted in one of his clients having his conviction vacated in a case alleging First Degree Sexual Assault, freeing him from prison 26 years prior to his sentenced release date.

As a trial lawyer, Attorney Mehlos has a reputation for excelling at forensic science, collaborating with leading experts internationally, nationally, and statewide in the fields of DNA, neurology, and forensic psychology and other areas of expertise to tailor trial defenses and mitigation strategies to ultimately achieve the best possible outcomes for his clients.

Attorney Mehlos speaks nationally and statewide at legal conferences. He has been featured on ESPN and C-SPAN as a debater. He is the co-founder of Casper Mehlos Law Group, LLC, serving clients in state and federal courts throughout the state of Wisconsin.
