Wordvice Releases AI Proofreader, an Automated Text Editing Tool

Wordvice, an international editing and proofreading company, has recently released its long-anticipated online grammar checker and writing assistant, the Wordvice AI Proofreader. Designed with academic writers in mind (but useful for anyone who writes), the AI Proofreader instantly identifies grammar and punctuation errors and style issues in all kinds of writing. The AI Proofreader is ideal for authors preparing their manuscripts for publication, or those who simply want to improve their writing quality.

The Wordvice AI Proofreader uses natural language processing (NLP) technology to identify errors and suggest the best vocabulary terms for the given context. The text editor was developed through a partnership with Kyunghee University in Seoul, South Korea, as part of a larger research project studying the parameters of popular online automated proofreading tools and identifying ways to strengthen these tools using target input text.

During this project, the AI Proofreader was trained using tens of thousands of lines of text from real research papers in dozens of academic domains. The proofreading results of the editing tool were then compared to those applied by professional editors. These comparisons were performed on words, phrases, lines, and even paragraphs and entire pages of text. By using input text from academic documents, researchers created a tool capable of giving more appropriate vocabulary and phrasing suggestions than other proofreading tools.

While its main strength is in correcting academic writing, the AI Proofreader can edit all types of documents–from research papers and journal manuscripts, to business documents, personal essays and even email drafts. The text editor is compatible with any formatting style, such as APA, MLA, AMA, Chicago, and Vancouver.

The AI Proofreader detects four different types of objective errors: grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. Each error is marked with color that makes it easy to see the specific issue that was identified. Clicking on the colored area allows you to either accept or reject the suggested change.

Objective errors are not the only type of language issue the Wordvice AI Proofreader identifies. While the tool is optimized to correct objective errors and improve word choice, it is also capable of identifying redundant language and awkward word order, improving flow and clarity in your written work. Finally, feedback boxes show you how to correct identified errors and provide suggestions for improving your writing, including brief explanations about the language rule relevant to the error.

As Wordvice CEO Jonghwan Lee explains, this new AI tool is part of a more holistic academic editing and proofreading process. “We designed Wordvice AI for academic authors who might want real-time feedback when drafting their research papers, but also would benefit from revision from a professional editor before submitting their manuscripts.” Lee notes that while there are many competitors in the text-editing app marketplace, very few have developed tools that benefit clients conducting research and composing academic studies.

The text editing tool is currently free for all to use, but it will soon be offered as part of several subscription packages with more features and tools to help writers improve specific aspects of their writing. For more information and to try the tool for free, visit https://wordvice.ai.
